I’ll be appearing on the panel “LGBTQ Comics Today: Drawn From Life” Saturday February 20th at 5:00 PM in room S4B!
I’m PROUD to announce the latest project that I’ve got on my plate this year: turning some of my AV columns into comic versions.
For those of you who don’t know: “Active Voice” was the name of the column I had written for about five years in the Blade California, an LGBT magazine based in Southern California. The premise were real-life stories as a lesbian activist (and corporate worker) in ultra-conservative Orange County, California in the early ’90’s. The column had been briefly revived in The Blade California a few years ago before the magazine went on hiatus. I had also written some for my website before I got swept away with higher-priorities of Real Life.
But now I have a team of ready artists to turn some of the old stories, as well as new ones, into comic form. The hope being that we’ll have created enough material for a graphic novel by the end of the year.
Expect some installments to appear online or in random collections as we work towards this goal!
Again, in the spirit of fair disclosure, I wanted to post that CreateSpace and I have resolved our issues. Admittedly, I had given up on them but a supervisor contacted me, explained my files should not have been rejected, and wanted to continue working with me.
Since I’m a sucker for well-meaning customer-service (in the spirit of solving a problem, that is), they’re back on my good list.
However, in researching other printers and trying to assess my needs, I’ve changed my physical print strategy in that I’ll only do digital single issue printing and paperback collections going forward unless it’s a special circumstance.
Okay, I thought it was only fair that I provide more detail for why I won’t use CreateSpace for the foreseeable future after my experience with trying to print “Web Of Lives 2″ and “Web Of Lives: Demons 1″. If you plan to use their service (especially for comic publishing), just be warned. My issues may not be your issues.

I’ve spent 3 days “arguing” with my print/distribution service, CreateSpace, about Web Of Lives 2 & Demons 1 that does not look like it’s going to be resolved. And I’m short of calling it suspiciously homophobic since the problems started with their evaluation of the Demons file (with gay men-centric art and storylines), where they became insistent that I adhere to their so-call style rules bleeds and margins, when those same rules were not brought up in printing Web 1 or initially submitting Web 2.

The print edition will be available once issue 6 is completed, which will be a couple more months.
I finally sat down to play with the Comic Easel plug-in so I could more easily launch additional chapters online: Start Reading Berserker.
So with that, I’ve added Chapters 4 and 5 of “Berserker” for unrestricted public consumption. Enjoy!

Due to some personal drama, the print version for Demons as well as the next print issue of Web Of Lives will be delayed until the end of the month.
A little sooner than my planned release date of Nov. 18, but I’m not going to complain.
